Oil is extracted from the seeds for culinary and industrial uses.

The oilcake residue (crushed kernels) provide a protein-rich feed for livestock.

Leftover “trash” from the cleaning process can go to feed lots as it is
extremely absorbent and dries out mud quite efficiently where it can then
be scraped up and sold as manure.  It can also be put to good use such as cleaning up oil slicks that take place at sea.

Very little of the cotton plant goes to waste after the bolls are harvested.

The stalks are processed for the development of ethanol for petrol and diesel blends or they are ploughed back into the earth as mulch to improve soil organic matter.

The lint is made into cotton fabric.

The  linters (small fibres which cling to the seed) are used in many domestic and industrial products.

Seeds are used for a variety of products, including oil, plastics, animal feed, explosives, cosmetics such as lipstick, margarine, rubber, insecticides, plus they may also be used as seeds to plant again for the next cotton crop.

Cottonseed ranks second in terms of world oilseed production, behind soybeans.

As of May 31, 2001 - According to the  USDA Crop Progress report, although Texas is at the bottom of the list in terms of planting, it leads the pack in percent squaring, with 10 percent of its crop already showing squares.
